Real Madrid’s bid for Yan Diomande rejected by RB Leipzig
Real Madrid has reportedly had an initial bid rejected by RB Leipzig for winger Yan Diomande. The offer was for an initial fee, plus add-ons. According to one report, Real Madrid is in negotiations with RB Leipzig to reach an agreement for the winger and has agreed personal terms with Diomande.
Liverpool has also expressed interest in Diomande, with an approach valued close to €100 million, but they are reportedly unwilling to exceed a certain amount. Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester City also remain interested in Diomande. Diomande had previously indicated a preference to join PSG earlier this summer and has already agreed to a contract with them until 2031, but Leipzig will only sell for an exceptional fee. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has held discussions with the German club.
Interest from Top European Clubs
Real Madrid has been active in the current transfer window following the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. The club has already secured players such as Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella. Madrid’s interest in Diomande has generated competition for his signature. The club is actively working on a deal for Diomande, especially with uncertainty surrounding the future of Vinicius Junior.
Liverpool’s willingness to pay for Diomande would reportedly surpass the Premier League’s record transfer for a teenager, which was for Leny Yoro from Lille in 2024. RB Leipzig’s managing director of sport, Marcel Shafer, stated that their clear intention is for Yan Diomande to play for RB Leipzig next year. The German club had been seeking a higher fee for Diomande, whose existing contract runs through the 2029-30 season, and are hopeful he will remain at the club beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.
Diomande’s Rapid Ascent
Diomande joined Leipzig a year ago from Spanish side Leganes for 20 million euros. His market value has since increased significantly, with some reports placing it around 90 million euros. His actual transfer fee could be even higher. He scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in 33 Bundesliga matches last season, missing only one league game due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga, qualifying for the 2026-27 Champions League.
Diomande’s journey began at DME Sports Academy in Florida, followed by a stint with Colorado Rapids in MLS before moving to Europe. He spent three months with Leganes’ reserves before making his professional debut against Real Madrid. His performances for Leganes, including goals against Espanyol and Valladolid, convinced RB Leipzig to sign him. He has continued to excel as a winger for the Bundesliga club, known for his dribbling ability and unpredictable play.
He featured in all four matches for the Ivory Coast during the recent World Cup, helping his nation reach the round of 32. He has scored three times in 14 appearances for the Ivory Coast, making his mark at the Africa Cup of Nations and in the World Cup. Diomande was rewarded with the best rising player prize for the 2025-2026 season by the DFL.
Diomande thrives on the left wing, cutting in on his right foot, and his individual skill makes him a constant threat in one-on-one situations. He attempted more dribbles than any other player in the German league during the 2025-2026 season and had the highest success rate in individual duels among wingers across Europe with at least 50 take-on attempts. He is also capable of contributing to the press after losing the ball, a quality that could suit Jose Mourinho’s defensive demands.
With six weeks remaining in the transfer window, the situation is described as an open race for Diomande’s signature.
